Candles are used for many different reasons – to scent a room, to provide light during emergencies, and even to aid in relaxation. Once a candle’s wick burns down, it becomes much more challenging to light. Low wicks are frustrating when you are wanting to get more scent from your favorite candle or in need of lighting in the event of an emergency. There is no need to worry, though. You can light a low wick easily and without a long lighter with the most unexpected of items.
Reaching the Wick
Spaghetti is one item that most kitchens always have, but did you know that it can be used to light a candle? Yes, spaghetti burns! It will not burn indefinitely, but it will burn long enough to light your candle.
- First, grab the candle you are lighting and bring it to your kitchen.
- Get a single piece of uncooked spaghetti.
- Light the end of the spaghetti with a lighter.
- Light the wick with the end of the spaghetti.
- Extinguish the spaghetti and throw it away.

It’s that simple. In fact, if you do not have any uncooked spaghetti, you can use wooden chopsticks to light your candle following the same steps.
If you want to avoid having a situation in which you need to light a low wick and have nothing to do so, you can purchase long matches and even a long BBQ lighter to keep for when they are needed.
Prepared for Anything
It’s good practice for everyone to have a stash of common items needed in emergency situations, like lighters, matches, flashlights, batteries, and a radio. Unfortunately, not everyone keeps a stash like this. Still, knowing that you can light a low wick candle with spaghetti is helpful and will come in handy one day.
